New York, NY – The Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA) applauds the House of Representatives’ historic passage of the bipartisan American Dream and Promise Act (H.R. 6), which would protect over two million Dreamers, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders, and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) recipients.
The American Dream and Promise Act would provide a pathway to citizenship for eligible Dreamers—undocumented immigrant youth brought to the U.S. as children—and would grant permanent residence status to TPS and DED holders. Enacting this bill would ensure that these communities will no longer have to live in fear of being torn from their families and deported to countries where they may face grave danger and even death.
“Dreamers and long-time residents like TPS and DED holders deserve a permanent solution and a pathway to permanent status and citizenship that will enable them to live, work, and study in the U.S. We are proud to stand with our partners in the immigrant community, whose hard work and perseverance led to this victory, and we thank each of the 237 House members who voted for the bill,” said David Bernstein, President and CEO of JCPA. “Even as we celebrate this historic win, we know our work is far from over. That’s why JCPA strongly urges the Senate to take up this critical bill and protect our immigrant neighbors and friends.”
JCPA and its Jewish community relations councils around the country have been very active in advocating for this legislation by meeting with lawmakers and organizing national Jewish sign-on letters, press conferences, and other grassroots actions. The Jewish community relations field remains committed to the American values of immigration and immigrant rights, family reunification, and economic opportunity.
