New York, NY — JCPA mourns the passing of Richard Trumka, an historic leader in the U.S. labor movement, from his years in and as leader of the United Mine Workers of America to his work as head of the AFL-CIO. JCPA was honored to present him with the JCPA Chaver Tzedek, Friend of Justice and Righteousness Award in 2011 at the JCPA National Conference.

Countless people and their lives were made better through his work as a workers’ advocate and union leader for better pay, working conditions and benefits, fair treatment on the job, and against discrimination in the work place. President Trumka was a good friend to the Jewish community and spoke out against antisemitism and hate of any kind.

May his memory be for a blessing.
