The Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA) applauds the House of Representatives for the bipartisan passage of the Iron Dome Supplemental Appropriations Act (H.R. 5323), which would provide $1 billion to Israel to replace the missile interceptors that protected Israeli civilians from missiles fired from Gaza by Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad during the conflict in May. The Iron Dome system has protected Israeli civilians from rockets fired from Gaza and also from missiles fired by Hezbollah from Lebanon and Syria.

JCPA strongly supports this funding, which is in keeping with the 2016 Memorandum of Understanding with Israel in which the United States committed to providing additional assistance to replenish the Iron Dome after periods of fighting so that it can continue to protect civilians. President Biden affirmed this promise shortly after Hamas’s attacks earlier this year.

“While we are happy that the House has passed the bill, we are concerned that politicians on both sides of the aisle are politicizing our nation’s support for Israel,” said David Bohm, Chair of JCPA.
