Washington, D.C. – In response to the passage of U.S. House Resolution #354, the Jewish Council of Public Affairs (JCPA) issued the following statement:
The Jewish Council for Public Affairs commends the U.S. House of Representatives for its unanimous passage of House Resolution #354 to enhance the safety and security of the Jews of Europe.
The Resolution calls upon the United States government to work closely with European governments, law enforcement agencies, and other institutions to take action steps to safeguard European Jews and their institutions. This bipartisan expression is an important step toward curbing the rising tide of violence.
The Resolution passed yesterday is an indication that as we are witness to increasing turmoil and violence around the world, the American government and the American Jewish community stand united and determined to act forcefully against violent anti-Semitic attacks at home and abroad. As an example of this, the JCPA, which acts as a common table for the organized Jewish community, highlighted this growing problem at our October Town Hall meeting by passing a resolution condemning the sharp rise in deplorable anti-Semitic acts around the globe and conveying it to Congress.
Similar to the House resolution, the JCPA acted with the recognition that this critical situation for European Jews requires decisive action. Collaboration and coordination between the United States government and Europe is vital for success. The JCPA further calls for community-wide conversations to support efforts to bring local government officials and Jewish institutions together to stand against any and all anti-Semitic violence in our own communities and worldwide.
JCPA, the public affairs arm of the organized Jewish community, serves as the national coordinating and advisory body for the 16 national and 125 local agencies comprising the field of Jewish community relations.
